 Calendar/Weather

We are counting the days in May using alternating flowers and bumblebees. Every day we count the numbers to see what number comes next on our calendar, and we look at our pattern to see if the number will be on a flower or a bumblebee. We are also beginning to recognize and read the word “May.” J Our weather reports are HOT…we are looking forward to Extreme Water Days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Plants, Bugs, and Worms…Oh My!

This week we continued our theme of bugs and plants. We have been watching our beans grow in the window…some of them have sprouted leaves! We have been watering our seeds every day and are watching the grass grow…it grew very tall very quickly. We worked hard on a couple of bug art projects where we created ladybugs and butterflies! We enjoyed worm science where we picked up live worms, measured them, and watched them wiggle. We created our very own (and very tasty!) “dirt” snack with chocolate pudding, crushed up Oreos, and gummy worms. Our favorite activity this week was becoming buzzing bugs! We made bug headbands and went buzzing through the office on a bug parade.

                                                                                                                                Letter and Shape Review

This week we reviewed the letter B while talking about bugs and pretending to be buzzing bugs. We practiced making the letter B sound and also practiced recognizing some other letters. We pretended there were bugs on different letters and jumped on the letters to smash them! J We also practiced shape recognition by swatting different shapes with a fly swatter. What fun!

Looking Ahead…

  • Our Water Days this week are Tuesday, May 18th and Wednesday, May 19th. There will be a big blow -up water slide at school for your child to enjoy! Please send your child to school with his/her bathing suit on, sunscreen applied, and a change of clothes in a plastic bag. Their wet bathing suit will be sent home in this same bag!

  • The last day of school is Tuesday, May 25th; there is noon dismissal on this day! Our Bye-Bye Party will take place at 11:00am.
